Church of the St Mary of the Mongols, Panagia Mukhliotissa in Greek;
  • the oldest church in Istanbul that is still being used as a church and it's the only functioning Byzantine church. 
  • located on a hill top in Fener district, close to the beautiful 19th century building built and used as a Greek primary school 'Kırmızı Mektep' (Red School), this terracota walled small church is said to be built for a Byzantine princess who lived in the 13th century. 
With its interesting layout and icons, it is a church worth visiting if one is in the neighborhood.
