istanbulite had the pleasure to do a delicious food tour of Istanbul with the award-winning Australian chef Shane Delia. We are now proud to bring you this exact experience, by following his footsteps and eating delicacies along the way.

We start the day with lunch at Zübeyir Ocakbaşı, a traditional meat house where you will watch the meat cooking on the coal fire and taste their famous vegetable kebab (contrary to its name, this is not a vegetarian dish).  Following lunch, we drive over to Beşiktaş, where we will have a beer among the young and vibrant crowd at the Beşiktaş Çarşı, the open-air market packed with casual cafes, pubs and restaurants.

In the afternoon we drive to Galata for a stroll over the Galata Bridge and watch the fishermen catch fish for the day. We taste the famous fish & bread sandwich at the oldest yet most delicious fish and bread place on the bridge.  After the fish and bread, we will head to the hip neighborhood Cihangir to try one of the most popular and unique desserts in Turkey: kazandibi. Özkonak Lokantası, which is well known for their homemade food, had started their business with their delicious milk-based desserts.

We finish the day at Mandabatmaz with a cup of Turkish coffee, the perfect digestive for the day’s meals. We’ll enjoy our coffee on a narrow street with low stools and wooden tables and relax among the locals chatting and enjoying their afternoon.
